If David loves John, what is your problem?

Recently I was trolling blogs in IndiVine. I was scrolling across the most popular blogs under the social issues and I came across the issue of being gay. The blogger (I don’t want to take names as that doesn’t serve any kind of purpose) was thrashing out gays left and right and it was promoted by nearly 150 bloggers. This led me to thinking how many people in India really know about gays? Do they have enough knowledge to take a stand on such an issue? In this blog, I am going to address each and every aspect that was raised by that blogger.

First of all, being gay doesn’t impact the sex ratio of the population.
The blogger was worried that if a man started marrying a man and a woman started marrying a woman, there won’t be the next generation of children. Well, not all men and women are gay. Most of them are heterosexual, and they are in enough numbers to take the race of humans to the next generation. So that blogger is never going to be left without a woman if he wishes to have one.

The second issue was, if we started allowing gay marriages, people would like to run naked on the beach next. Well, how ridiculous this reasoning is. My dear blogger, please note that whether you are heterosexual or gay, you cannot indulge in public display of affection in Indian society. If you don’t know, please know that Indian police have the right to arrest you if you kiss your girlfriend/wife in the public as the Indian law believes that you are making a nuisance of yourself and thereby harassing the general public. So anyway when you aren’t allowed to do any of your private things in public, why should it matter what you do in private? Right? And so address your issue, even if gay marriages are allowed, people won’t be allowed to run naked. Relax.

Thirdly, is being a gay a choice? Really, how many of you believe this sh*t? I know it’s not a choice; it’s what you are. And how do I know this? Well, couple of years back, one of my very good friends confided in me that she is gay. I’ll admit that initially I was stunned and was feeling very uncomfortable, the reason being zero exposure to this facet of human aspect. When I started thinking rationally on the subject, I started getting curious about the reasons (I never paid any mind to that “western influence” stuff because sexual gratification has no relation with the “in” thing). I wanted to know because a person’s sexual orientation is a big part of that person’s behavior, and I wanted to know what type of behavior should I expect from my friend. As I researched more and more on the topic, I came to know that your sexual orientation depends on your hormones and these hormones are formed during your conception. For example, there are many females who despite being heterosexual, like to dress and behave like men. In the same way, there are men who walk and talk like women but are not gay. (There was a detailed scientific analysis regarding it but I am in no position to repeat it) These men and women’s choices are governed by their hormones that are formed during their conception and development process when they were in their mother’s womb. So if you are gay, is that your fault? Or is that the fault of your parents for conceiving you the wrong way?

So, finally my question is, what is your problem if any of your family members, friends or colleagues is gay? Are they forcing themselves on you? And if you have an argument that they are polluting the culture of the society, please rationally explain how they are doing so. Just going on a rampant ramblings on how gay people harm the society and pollute the minds of the young, rising youth is absolutely bull sh*t. This kind of behavior is generally expected from illiterate and uneducated people, not from bloggers who are essentially writers, believed to be well-read people with broad mind sets and partiality toward the quest of truth.

Whosoever does not agree with me, please feel free to comment. However, please take rational and sensible stand. Irrational excuses and lame points do not impress me much. I have a very low tolerance for people who stubbornly believe in old ideas (which most of the times starts and ends with “negative effects of western influence”) and hate to learn new things.

  1. There is no dearth of such people and how much ever we try to change their mindset it won't change.

  6. Very rational approach to the issue, Pankti. I'm not surprised that the blogger you mentioned got a lot of support. The majority always think they are right, and only they are right.

I'm a married man living happily with my wife. But I exercise my rational faculty when it comes to issues like homosexuality and put aside my personal bliss and try to understand what others feel and experience. I feel you are very much like me in this regard.

    1. Every time I see people's right to live their life the way they want abused and violated, I lose my cool. I use someday we will try live by the mantra of "live and let live"
