Every time I see a drop of rain on a leaf,
With rainbow tiptoeing around me like a thief,
The child in me rejoices!
Sound of birds on the morn makes me wonder,
If avarice and indulgence is pulling me under,
The child in me whimpers!
Dripping ice-cream down the carefree cone,
Buttery, chocolatey, cheery scone,
The child in me yearns!
Buried under the mountains of restraints,
My embittered heart complaints,
The child in me laments!
If avarice and indulgence is pulling me under,
The child in me whimpers!
Dripping ice-cream down the carefree cone,
Buttery, chocolatey, cheery scone,
The child in me yearns!
Buried under the mountains of restraints,
My embittered heart complaints,
The child in me laments!
Good straightforward poetry - unlike the usual wordy over senti ones on blogs
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because small things make me miss my childhood! Thanks for reading :)
DeleteThere are so many things i love about this poetry.. for one, I can't write short poems.. I've a serious disorder writing short stuff.. I need a lot of words.. and the way it moves from the reminiscence of the old memories to the final realization that we have to grow up is something that stuck the right chords.. you're an EXCELLENT POETESS.
ReplyDeleteAwww Shruti....you are really sweet. I've seen your poems and you really like beautiful poems...and no, I'm not a poetess....it's just that sometimes something strikes and I write it down. Thanks for dropping by :)

DeleteSo true. We get enough reason everyday for the child in us to awaken, but alas, we pat it hard and make it sleep back.
